Bill and Bob are part of a rich agricultural region of dairy farmers, cattle and sheep ranchers and oyster growers in West Marin County. Once slated for development with major highways, airports and subdivisions this rural paradise, so close to a major city, was permanently preserved as farms and agricultural open space. Your morning starts at Cowgirl Creamery in Point Reyes Station in West Marin, where you’ll meet your guide and enjoy some fresh cheese-filled pastries from the Bovine Bakery. Your local foodie guide will teach you the culinary history of Marin, plus all the ins and outs of cheese making in this Northern California region, which is famous for its award-winning artisanal cheeses.

Next, hop in the van and visit two other local cheese farms. You'll meet the cheese makers, take behind-the-scenes tours of the facilities, and sample creamy goat cheese, nutty sheep cheese and robust blue cheese. You'll also learn how your favorite cheeses are crafted and aged.

On the farms, wander around with the farmers and pet the sheep, goats and cows. You are guaranteed to fall in love the the little babies! Soak up the glorious scenery and savor the farm-fresh flavors of Marin with a gourmet picnic lunch right on the farm (see Itinerary for a sample menu). Your 5-hour tour concludes back at Cowgirl Creamery in the afternoon.

Take a stroll next door to Brickmaiden Breads – not typically open to the public – where you’ll feel like a privileged insider as you peak inside to witness the hard work that goes into every loaf of bread. Enjoy a fresh loaf from their wood-fire oven before heading to the Point Reyes icon, Bovine Bakery, to taste some delicious chai. 

Next, hop in the van and make your way to Marin Sun Farms where you'll indulge in a grass fed burger tasting - try beef burgers, lamb burgers and the local favorite, goat burgers! You won't go hungry with the additional fried brussel sprouts, french fries, salad and famous water buffalo gelato, which just got voted best ice cream in America! 

Next, visit Heidrun Meadery, the only place in the world making honey wine using the Champagne method. Tour the winery and bee gardens as you taste 5 different varietals of sparkling mead.

Farther along beautiful Tomales Bay is Hog Island Oyster Farm, where you can try their famous Sweetwater oysters. Throughout your tour, you’ll learn about how oysters are farmed and how they can help restore ecosystems.

Lastly, explore the fields of Table Top Farm and purchase some farm-fresh veggies from their farmstand. 

You will leave with a full belly and a great appreciation for the beauty and bounty of Point Reyes!
