Paddle along the historic western shore of Lake Tahoe with a three hour kayak rental in Tahoe City.  Enjoy crystal clear waters and stunning mountain views of one of California's storied treasures while searching for birds and wildflowers.  Explore some of the most beautiful scenery in North America on this magical, self-guided paddle on this gorgeous, blue lake ringed by 12,000 ft. mountains.

Lake Tahoe is a year-round playground offering incredible hiking, boating, and kayaking through most of the summer and some of the best skiing in North America in the winter.  Ringed by massive mountains and beautiful pine forest, the lake is the largest alpine lake in North America and one of the deepest in the United States.  Every year, thousand of visitors and residents alike flock to the lake to escape the searing heat of the California Central Valley and to enjoy the abundance of incredible water sports and outdoor activities the area offers.

Your three hour kayak rental will start at a local kayak facility near the mouth of the Truckee River, Lake Tahoe's only outlet, where you have the option to paddle out in whatever direction you feel like.  The lake is 12 miles across and dozens of miles long, and although you may be tempted, you'll want to stay close to the shore and avoid trying to cross among the motorboats and jet skiers cruising the area.  Your single-person kayak will keep you afloat among the gentle waves and light wind that cross the lake in the early morning and afternoon as you float by the granite boulders and massive sugar pines that ring the lake.  The time will pass quickly as you work your muscles and push yourself throughout the three hours until you return to the river to disembark for your next adventure - unless you decide to upgrade to a full day rental!

Explore Lake Tahoe's eastern shore on this four and half guided tour from Sand Harbor.  Let an expert guide lead you out among granite boulders to find secret swimming holes and hidden picnic sites.  Learn the unique geological and cultural history of one of North America's most pristine alpine lakes.

Lake Tahoe is a paradise for a lover of the outdoors - gigantic, beautiful mountains ring a crystal clear lake dozens of miles long and thousands of feet deep.  Ski resorts, casinos, hiking trails and public parks create an intense mosaic of natural and man-made wonders offering an incredible variety of activities available nearly year round.  With so much to do, guided tours offer an easy opportunity to learn more about the area and solicit local recommendations about the best places to eat, hike, sunbathe and explore.  During the summer, kayaking can be an especially fun way to get out on the lake, relax, and take an appreciative look around.

Your exclusive Sand Harbor kayak tour starts by the Sand Harbor Beach parking lot.  Widely considered one of the best and most scenic beaches along the eastern side of the lake, the parking lot fills early during the summer time so don't be late for your 9am tour.  After meeting your guide and checking in, you will head to the launch point to board your kayak and get your life jacket and paddle.  Depending on the option you select, you'll either have a single person or 2-person kayak to call your own as you head out.  As you paddle out into the lake, you will first be surrounded by granite boulders before moving out into deeper waters.  Your guide will fill you in on the high-rolling history of Lake Tahoe's earlier days as you pass by the historic Thunderbird Lodge and and secluded, private beaches.  Stopping for lunch by a hidden inlet, you'll be free to jump off rocks or go for a swim to cool down as the temperatures begin to rise.

The tour concludes at approximately 1:30 back at the Sand Dollar Beach parking lot where you will return your kayak and paddle and either head out towards nearby South Lake Tahoe for more fun and entertainment or stick around at the beach to continue relaxing by the water.

Lake Tahoe is a land of beautiful contrast and dramatic offerings.  With the highest concentration of Ski Resorts on the West Coast, the snowy winter months are a popular time to hit the slopes and visit the lodges populating the soaring mountains surrounding the lake.  Summer is a time of boats, hiking, and late evening beach swims under a canvass of bright California stars.  Even the different sides of the lake offer sharply different experiences for the discerning vacationer - concert venues, sky-rise hotels and casinos of the Nevada shoreline contrast sharply with the national forest, rustic cabins, and state parks found on the western and northern Californian side.

This 2 1/2 hour tour starts in the morning in Tahoe City near the main marina before the winds pick up and the summer crowds hit the water.  After outfitting you with an appropriate Kayak, life vest, and paddle, you will launch into the vibrant blue water and paddle out along the coast behind you expert, local guide.  You will hear stories of Tahoe before the casinos, back when early settlers first built cabins and began carving out their own homesteads along the scenic lake.  Hear how Teddy Roosevelt failed to turn the are into a national park how developers along the southern shore began to build a resort for wealthy vacationers and residents.  Hear the stories of the truckee river and the Donner party, and why the differences between to the two sides of the lake exist today.

When you are finished, you will head back to Tahoe City to return your kayak and head to lunch from one of the many local restaurants and cafes available to you.
